Chapter 1 - The Weight of Hidden PagesThe heavy leather-bound journal felt like lead in David’s hands. The air in the luxurious penthouse living room was thick, charged with the suffocating energy of a secret long buried and violently brought to light. On the floor a few feet away, Chloe scrambled backward on her hands and knees, her green silk blouse slightly rumpled, her face a mask of frantic desperation.

"David, put that down!" Chloe shrieked, her voice cracking as she lunged forward, her fingers clawing helplessly at the air just inches from his polished shoes. "It’s a lie! She’s a child, she doesn't know what she’s talking about! She made the whole thing up out of jealousy!"
David didn't move. His eyes, wide and bloodshot with shock, were glued to the open pages of the journal. The handwriting was unmistakable—it belonged to his late first wife, Sarah, whose tragic passing two years ago had left an unhealable wound in his heart. Every stroke of the pen, every sharp curve of the ink, bore Sarah’s soul.
In his arms, little Lily whimpered, burying her face into his light blue shirt, her tiny shoulders shaking as she clutched her stuffed white rabbit. The faint red marks on the little girl's arm—marks that Chloe had claimed were from a playground fall earlier that afternoon—seemed to burn into David's consciousness with terrifying clarity.
"She hid your mom's documents, Daddy," Lily sobbed quietly against his chest, her small voice cutting through David's daze like a knife. "She... she pinched me when I tried to give them back to you."
David slowly raised his head, his gaze shifting from the written pages to the woman he had married six months after Sarah's passing. He had trusted Chloe. He had believed her sweet smile, her gentle caretaking of his grieving family, and her seamless transition into their household. But as his eyes swept over the entries on the page before him—detailing systematic financial manipulation, gaslighting, and a chilling account of how Sarah's private medical records had been altered—the illusion shattered entirely.
"You lied to me," David whispered, his voice trembling not with sorrow, but with a cold, terrifying fury. "Every single word you told me about Sarah's final months... it was all a fabrication."
Chloe stopped scrambling. Her desperate expression flickered, replaced by a cold, hardened glint that David had never seen before. She slowly rose to her feet, smoothing down her black trousers, a bitter laugh escaping her lips.

"And what if it was?" Chloe sneered, stepping back toward the kitchen archway. "You were blind with grief, David. Anyone could have walked into your life and played the savior. I just played the part better than anyone else."
Before David could lunge forward, Chloe spun around and bolted toward the private back service stairs, slamming the heavy wooden door shut behind her.
