David sat on the rug in the living room, building a towering block castle with Lily, who was now smiling, vibrant, and completely healed from the trauma of the past. Every night, David spent hours reading to her, ensuring she knew she was safe, loved, and protected.
Victoria walked into the living room, holding a freshly printed legal document and a steaming cup of coffee. She handed the coffee to David before taking a seat on the armchair.
"The trial concluded this morning," Victoria announced quietly. "Chloe pled guilty to embezzlement, reckless endangerment, and obstruction of justice in exchange for a life sentence without parole. The federal investigation into Sarah's original accident has also been reopened based on her recovered confession."
David looked up, letting out a long, shuddering breath he felt like he had been holding for years. He looked over at the mantle, where Sarah's journal rested securely next to a framed photograph of her smiling brightly, surrounded by fresh white lilies.
"It's finally over," David murmured, a profound sense of peace washing over him.
