Chapter 2 - The Fall of the HouseThe heavy thud of the briefcases echoed through the vast hallway, but neither the child nor the woman immediately reacted. Julian felt as if the room had lost all oxygen. The air turned icy, freezing the blood in his veins.

For months, he had suspected that something was wrong behind the closed doors of their suburban mansion. Victoria had grown distant, cold, and strangely defensive whenever he brought up Lily’s quiet demeanor. She claimed the child was merely shy, undergoing a phase of behavioral rebellion. Julian, consumed by the high-stakes negotiations to salvage his hedge fund, had believed her. He had trusted the polished exterior of his domestic life.
Now, that illusion shattered into a million sharp, painful fragments.
Julian took a step forward, his legs feeling like lead. He looked at Victoria, whose expression had transformed instantly from cruel indifference to sheer, unadulterated panic. Her hands trembled slightly as she let her arms drop to her sides, her posture collapsing from icy composure to panicked defense.
"Julian..." she breathed, her voice barely a whisper against the vast silence of the hall.

He ignored her. His focus collapsed entirely onto the small girl on the floor. Lily didn't look up. Her hands were pressed flat against the cold marble, her little fingers trembling against the polished stone. The sight pierced Julian’s heart deeper than any business failure ever could. How long had this been happening? How many times had he left his innocent child in the hands of a monster in a red sequined dress?
As he sprinted down the hallway toward his child, the distance felt infinite, every stride weighed down by a wave of crushing guilt.
