Chapter 20 - The Horizon AheadJulian walked out onto the back porch. Night had fallen, revealing a vast sky filled with brilliant, twinkling stars. The cool night air felt fresh and pure, carrying the sweet scent of pine and damp earth.

Lily ran out through the screen door, wearing her cozy pajamas, and wrapped her arms around his waist. "Daddy! Look! A shooting star!" she cried out excitedly, pointing toward the dark sky.

Julian scooped her up into his arms, kissing her soft cheek as Clara stepped out to join them, wrapping a warm blanket around all three of them.

"Did you make a wish, sweetie?" Julian asked gently.

"I don't need to make a wish," Lily said with a bright, innocent smile, laying her head against his shoulder. "I already have everything I ever wanted right here."

Julian held his family tightly, looking out into the tranquil darkness of the night.

Miles away, at the edge of the property line near the quiet country road, a single black sedan was parked quietly in the shadows. Inside, a woman watched the warm lights of the farmhouse from afar through a pair of binoculars. She saw the happy family on the porch, saw the little girl laughing in her father's arms, and let out a long, silent tear of relief.

She turned off the ignition, put the car in drive, and slowly rolled away into the endless dark road ahead—leaving them to their peace, never to return, yet always watching from the shadows.
