Chapter 11 - The Voice on the Speaker

Julian set the blue binder on the center table beside the child's wooden bed, opening the front cover to reveal a secondary digital audio module embedded in the leather lining.

He pressed the small silver contact button on the side of the module.

A clear, high-definition audio recording played through the room, filling the subterranean space with crisp sound.

MALE VOICE ON TAPE: "The Sterling Trust is fully collateralized by the four properties in New York and London. In the event of my death, full control reverts to my son Ethan upon his first child's birth."

Ethan's jaw tightened as he recognized his late father's stern, commanding voice.

ETHAN: "My father set up the trust for Leo?"

JULIAN: "Yes. But your mother didn't want the trust to trigger because it strips her of her lifetime annuity from the main firm."

Ethan looked toward the narrow staircase where his mother was currently held under guard in the parlor above.

ETHAN: "So she tried to keep Leo away from the estate to prevent the trust from activating."
