Chapter 12 - The Confrontation on the Lawn

By seven o'clock that evening, night had fallen completely over the estate, the storm whipping the tall oak trees into wild, thrashing shadows.

Victoria stood on the wet stone steps of the front driveway, flanked by two armed security guards as a black luxury SUV pulled up to the grand entrance.

Ethan walked out through the heavy double doors, carrying baby Leo securely against his chest wrapped in a warm wool blanket.

VICTORIA: "Ethan, listen to me! If you file those trust papers with the court in the morning, you are opening this family to threats you can't possibly control!"

Ethan walked down the stone steps, stopping two feet from his mother, his face carved from cold, unyielding granite.

ETHAN: "My father built a prison beneath this house, Victoria. And you helped him keep the doors locked for thirty years."

VICTORIA: "I did it to keep you alive!"

ETHAN: "You did it to keep your money."

Ethan signaled to Thomas, who opened the rear door of the SUV.

ETHAN: "Take her to the city residence, Thomas. She doesn't return to this estate without my written consent."
