Richard and Elena had spent the dark hours reviewing their remaining physical cash, securing the nursery, and preparing for a legal war they never asked to fight.
When Richard opened the door, he was greeted by two stern-looking caseworkers from Child Protective Services, accompanied by a local police officer.
"Mr. Sterling? We received an emergency expedited welfare report regarding an unsafe environment and active physical endangerment of a minor within this residence," the lead caseworker, Agent Miller, stated professionally as she flashed her badge. "We need to conduct an immediate inspection and interview everyone in the household."
Richard stepped aside, keeping his composure despite the fury boiling inside him. "Please, come in. My daughter is safe, and I have documentation proving that the initial report was filed maliciously by my estranged mother."
For the next hour, the agents inspected the nursery, reviewed medical logs, and questioned Richard and Elena separately. Richard made sure to detail his mother’s violent actions from the previous day, presenting the high-definition security camera footage he had quietly exported from the hallway surveillance system before confronting Victoria.
Agent Miller watched the crisp video on Richard’s laptop—the footage clearly showing Victoria lunging toward the balcony railing with the baby bundle, followed by the terrifying plunge and Elena’s heroic dive to save the infant. The caseworker’s expression shifted from professional detachment to absolute horror.
"This footage completely alters the nature of the emergency complaint," Agent Miller noted, typing rapidly on her tablet. "It is evident that the threat originated not from the household staff or the father, but from the petitioner herself. Where is Mrs. Victoria Sterling currently located?"
"She was evicted from this property last night," Richard answered firmly. "She is using her lawyer to file fraudulent custody claims as an act of retaliation."

"Mr. Sterling, we cannot dismiss the court docket automatically due to mandatory state protocols regarding emergency filings, but this video will be submitted as primary evidence of maternal protection and outside endangerment. I strongly advise you to present this to the family court judge immediately."
As the caseworkers departed, Richard felt a tiny glimmer of hope pierce through the gloom, but he knew the courtroom battle ahead would require more than just video evidence to dismantle his mother’s decades-old empire of influence.
