Chapter 1 - The Strike at High NoonThe sun beat down ruthlessly on the Italian marble patio of the Sterling estate, illuminating a scene of calculated cruelty. Elena Sterling, matriarch of the family and a woman whose heart was as cold as the diamonds glittering on her fingers, stood over a crumpled figure with a heavy wooden cane. At her feet lay Maya, nine months pregnant, wearing a crimson dress that was quickly staining with dust and tears.

Surrounding them, an audience of family members watched in chilling silence. Marcus, Maya’s husband, stood among them, his expression a mask of chilling indifference. He didn't lift a finger to save his wife or his unborn child. He had traded his soul for corporate dominance, aligning fully with his mother’s ruthless vision.

"You thought a bastard child could inherit the Sterling empire?" Elena hissed, her voice dripping with venom as she raised the heavy cane high into the air. "You are nothing! A common gold-digger trying to latch onto greatness!"

Maya screamed, clutching her swollen belly, shielding her unborn baby from the impending blow. The cane descended with a sickening thud against the stone inches from her arm, kicking up dust and driving terror deep into her soul. The guests—cousins, aunts, and sycophants—sipped their champagne, whispering amongst themselves, treating a human life like entertainment at a Roman circus.

"Please... stop..." Maya choked out, her breath failing her as sharp contractions tore through her body. The physical pain was excruciating, but the betrayal by the man she loved cut infinitely deeper.

Elena laughed maniacally, her face contorted with tyrannical glee. "Cry all you want. No one is coming to save you here. This estate belongs to the Sterlings, and blood like yours doesn't get to mix with ours."

She readied the cane for another devastating strike, her muscles tensed, entirely absorbed in her sadistic triumph. But before the wood could meet flesh, a deep, resonant rumble vibrated through the iron gates of the estate, cutting through her laughter like a knife.
