Chapter 6 - Betrayal in the Boardroom

The next morning, the glass-and-steel skyscraper of Vance Global Headquarters hummed with
tense anticipation. The board of directors sat in absolute silence around the massive mahogany
conference table as Victor Vance, dressed in an immaculate charcoal suit, took his place at the head.
With a somber, theatrical expression, Victor placed a black mourning band on the table. "It is with
profound sorrow that I announce the tragic passing of my beloved sister-in-law, Elena, and her young
son Leo in a devastating residential fire early this morning," Victor announced, forcing a counterfeit
tear from his eye.
Murmurs of shock rippled through the executives. Several board members bowed their heads in
respectful silence, while others immediately began calculating the stock market implications. Victor
suppressed a triumphant smirk; with Elena and Leo out of the way, the emergency proxy vote
scheduled for noon would grant him absolute controlling stake in the multi-billion-dollar enterprise.
Just as the lead chairman raised his gavel to ratify the emergency succession, the heavy oak doors
of the boardroom swung open with a resounding bang. All eyes snapped toward the entrance.
Striding into the room with calm, unshakeable dignity was Elena Vance, impeccably dressed in a
sharp navy business suit, flanked by federal investigators and corporate marshals. Right beside her,

carrying a sleek leather briefcase, was ten-year-old Leo.
