Chapter 5 - The Search for the PastThe following morning, the media outlets were feeding on the sensational downfall of Victoria Vance, but Richard cared nothing for the headlines. His entire world had shifted on its axis. Armed with the address provided in Elena's documents, he drove out to a quiet, suburban neighborhood far away from the flashing lights of Manhattan.

He pulled up in front of a modest, well-kept yellow cottage. The rain was beginning to drizzle, slicking the windshield—reminding him painfully of how fragile life truly was.
He stepped out of his luxury car and walked up the wooden steps, his heart hammering against his ribs in a way it never had during a multi-million-dollar corporate merger. He raised his hand and knocked.
A few moments later, the door creaked open.

"Sarah..." Richard choked out, a tear breaking free and cutting a path down his cheek. "I know everything. Victoria... she's gone. The lies are over."

Sarah gripped the edge of the doorframe, her eyes filling with tears of disbelief and long-suppressed pain. "You took ten years to realize it, Richard. Why come back now?"
Before Richard could answer, the little boy stepped forward, looking up at the tall stranger in a tailored suit. "Mommy, who is this?"
