Chapter 12 - MayaDavid entered the recovery room hours later.

Leah looked exhausted.

But she was smiling.

A tiny baby slept beside her.

"Meet your daughter," Leah whispered.

David approached slowly.

His hands trembled as he touched the baby's tiny fingers.

"She's beautiful."

Leah smiled.

"Maya."

David looked at her.

"Maya?"

"I thought it suited her."

He nodded.

"It does."

Maya opened her eyes for a brief moment.

David laughed through his tears.

He kissed Leah's forehead.

"I'm sorry."

She looked at him.

"For what?"

"For not seeing it sooner."

Leah reached for his hand.

"You see it now."

David looked down at their daughter.

The past had nearly swallowed them.

But it hadn't.
