Chapter 4 - The DetectiveDetective Miller listened without interrupting.

He was an exhausted man in his late fifties, surrounded by overflowing folders and cold coffee.

David pushed the lockbox across the desk.

"I have the medical reports."

Then the photographs.

"The altered bottles."

Then the security footage.

"She tried to hurt my wife."

Miller studied the documents.

His expression slowly hardened.

"You believe she was trying to cause a miscarriage?"

"I know she was."

The detective leaned back.

"Knowing and proving are two different things."

David clenched his jaw.

Miller continued.

"Give me everything. Medical reports, recordings, messages, photographs. Everything."

David nodded.

Then Miller asked the question that followed him home.

"Why?"

David looked at him.

"Why would your mother want this baby gone?"

David had no answer.
