Chapter 12 - THE WOMAN BEHIND REBECCA
They escaped the hotel through a side entrance.
Police arrived minutes later.
But Victor was gone.
The folder was the only evidence.
Investigators traced the photographs.
Every image had been taken by different cameras.
Someone had access to private security systems.
Then Marcus found a name hidden inside the folder.
Evelyn Carter.
Ethan's aunt.
He stared at it.
“My aunt?”
Marcus nodded.
“She financed Victor.”
Vanessa looked at Ethan.
“Does she still live here?”
Ethan's face became cold.
“No.”
Evelyn had moved overseas after Ethan's mother died.
She had always presented herself as the grieving sister.
Now everything changed.
They contacted international authorities.
Evelyn was located in Switzerland.
But before she could be arrested, she called Ethan.
“You finally figured it out.”
“Why?”
“Because your mother wanted to destroy everything.”
“She wanted justice.”
“She wanted control.”
“You killed her?”
“No.”
Evelyn laughed softly.
“Your father did worse.”
Ethan closed his eyes.
“You helped him.”
“I protected the family.”
“You destroyed it.”
Evelyn became silent.
Then she said,
“Rebecca was useful.”
“She attacked my daughter.”
“She became emotional.”
“You used her.”
“Of course.”
Ethan's voice became cold.
“Where is Victor?”
Evelyn smiled.
“You won't find him.”
“Why?”
“Because he's already inside your house.”
The call ended.
Ethan immediately turned.
Security cameras showed the mansion.
Everything appeared normal.
Then one camera flickered.
The hallway outside Lily's bedroom.
A shadow moved.
Ethan ran.
Vanessa followed.
The bedroom door was open.
Lily was gone.
Vanessa screamed her name.
Ethan's heart stopped.
