Chapter 2 - The Weight of SecretsThe shattered glass lay forgotten between them as the silence of the penthouse stretched, thick and suffocating. Alexander stood up slowly from his chair, towering over her with an intense, magnetic presence that made Chloe's breath catch.

"Do you have any idea what kind of hell I've been living through these past few hours?" Alexander asked, closing the distance between them. His voice wasn't angry; it was laced with a desperate anguish that terrified her even more than his wrath would have.
"I'm just a maid, Mr. Vance," Chloe whispered, looking down at her ruined sneakers. "You shouldn't care if I'm late. If I'm a liability, you can terminate my contract right now."
"Stop it," Alexander snapped, his hand reaching out to gently grab her wrist—not with the force of a master, but with the desperate grip of a drowning man holding onto a lifeline. "Stop hiding behind that title. You know damn well you aren't just a maid to me."
Chloe flinched, torn between the overwhelming warmth of his touch and the icy reality of their social chasm. Alexander Vance was a billionaire tech mogul, a titan of industry whose name commanded headlines and fear. She was an orphan, drowning in student debt, working double shifts just to keep a roof over her head. Romance between them was a silent crime punishable by exile.
"If anyone finds out about us—about the late nights spent talking in this study, about what happened last week—your board of directors will tear you apart, and I'll be sued into oblivion," Chloe pleaded, looking up into his piercing eyes.

Alexander shook his head, a bitter smile touching his lips. "Let them try. For the first time in five years, since the accident that took my family, I actually feel alive. And you expect me to pretend you're just someone who cleans my floors?"
Before Chloe could reply, a sudden flash of lightning illuminated the hallway outside, casting a long, distorted shadow against the wall. Footsteps echoed softly on the marble stairs. Someone was coming.
