CHAPTER 34: A HOUSE DIVIDED

The pressure within the organization began to fracture internal morale. During an emergency board meeting held via encrypted video conference, several cautious board members voiced panic.
"We cannot weather a protracted public relations war with Sterling Global," argued Thomas Vance, a senior board member whose loyalty wavered under the heat of the media scrutiny. "Perhaps we should scale back the New York expansion. Pause operations until the investigation concludes."
"Pause?" Edward slammed his fist onto the mahogany table in the board room, his voice booming with unexpected authority despite his frailty. "If we pause now, we concede defeat! We signal to every victim of trauma that institutional bullies can silence healing whenever profit margins are threatened! I built this estate on steel and stone, but this sanctuary was built on blood and redemption. We do not surrender!"
"Mr. Edward, with all due respect, idealism doesn't pay legal fees," Thomas countered sharply. "The audit costs are mounting, and public trust is eroding."
"Then let me fund it," a calm, resolute voice echoed from the doorway.
All heads turned. Sophia stood there, flanked by Maya. She stepped into the light of the room, her posture immaculate, her gaze unwavering.

"I am liquidating my personal holdings—every remaining share of my father's legacy stock that isn't tied to the foundation," Sophia announced clearly. "Every cent required for the forensic audit and legal defense will come from my personal estate. The foundation's operational funds remain untouched for our patients. If anyone on this board wishes to resign out of fear, your resignation is accepted right now. But if you stay, you fight."
Silence hung heavy in the room. One by one, the dissenting board members lowered their eyes. Thomas Vance swallowed hard, nodded slowly, and withdrew his objection. The house remained united, but the battle lines were drawn.
