CHAPTER 36: THE DUEL OF INTEGRITY

"Brave words from a frightened girl," Sterling sneered softly, taking a sip of his scotch. "Your little sanctuary is drowning in bad press, Ms. Edward. Within a month, your zoning permits will be revoked permanently, and your donors will scatter like roaches when the lights turn on."
"You think this is about paperwork," Maya said, stepping closer, unafraid of his intimidating aura. "You think you can bury us under lawsuits and orchestrated media hits because you measure everything in stock tickers and quarterly profits."
"In this world, power is the only currency that matters," Sterling replied smoothly. "And power belongs to those who control the systems. You're playing checkers in a game of global chess."
"No, Mr. Sterling," Maya retorted, her voice ringing with absolute conviction. "You are the one playing a dying game. You're fighting an obsolete model of control. People are waking up. They don't want your addictive pills that numb their pain while padding your pockets; they want real healing, real community, and real truth. Every attack you launch against us only exposes how terrified you are of a world that doesn't need your pharmaceuticals."
Sterling’s eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. "You have no proof of any wrongdoing on our part. We operate entirely within the law."
"For now," Maya said, producing a small encrypted flash drive from her pocket and holding it up where the penthouse security cameras could clearly record the motion. "This drive contains the encrypted paper trail linking your corporate slush funds to the fake whistleblower complaints and the troll farm contracts. It was leaked to our legal team by an internal compliance officer at Sterling Global who couldn't stomach your corruption."
Sterling’s face went momentarily rigid. The mask of untouchable corporate arrogance cracked.
"You're bluffing," he hissed.

"Am I?" Maya smiled, a calm, brilliant expression that mirrored her mother's legendary resilience. "A copy of this drive is currently sitting in the hands of the U.S. Attorney General's office and three major investigative news networks, set on a delayed release timer. If anything happens to our zoning permits—if your harassment doesn't cease within twenty-four hours—the timer goes off."
She tossed the flash drive onto the cocktail table beside him, turned on her heel, and walked away without looking back, leaving the titan of industry frozen in stunned disbelief.
