Chapter 8 - THE BOARDROOM AMBUSH

The death certificate carried a physician's signature and an official state seal.
Victor claimed Claire had died in a private care facility after years of mental illness.
He argued that the trust had no living senior beneficiary and that my identity was unproven.
Michael placed Claire's birth record, my adoption papers, and the locker video on the boardroom table.
Victor called them fabricated.
Daniel stood at the head of the table.
“For twenty-four years, you told this family Claire was dead.”
“Now you admit she was alive in a facility you paid every month.”
Victor's smile tightened.
“I protected her privacy.”
“You imprisoned her,” I said.
The directors shifted in their chairs.
Victor turned his attention to me.
“You cleaned floors in my daughter's home.”
“Do you honestly believe you can run a company with fourteen thousand employees?”
“I don't need to run it today,” I replied.
“I only need to stop you from stealing it.”
I handed the trust clause to the board secretary.
The room went quiet as she read it.
The emergency reversion did not depend on Claire being alive.
It depended on proof that a trustee had hidden a beneficiary and committed fraud.
The locker video, payment records, and forged surrender were enough to trigger it.
The secretary confirmed my authority.
Victor's six directors tried to leave.
The doors locked automatically at Daniel's command.
Detective Reyes entered with financial investigators and warrants.
For the first time, Victor lost his calm.
He ended the video call.
The police traced his connection to a moving vehicle near the northern highway.
Vanessa was with him.
So was a third passenger registered under the false name Carol Reed.
The photograph on the registration showed Claire.
Reyes ordered highway units to intercept them.
I activated the reversion clause.
Every voting share Charles had stolen moved back into the protected trust.
Victor's remaining company access disappeared from the screen.
A red warning flashed across the boardroom monitors.
PATIENT TRANSFER PROTOCOL INITIATED.
Michael recognized the message as a hidden function inside the Silver Pines payment system.
The moment Victor lost access, the system automatically sent instructions to relocate Claire.
A second line appeared.
DESTINATION: HARRINGTON PRIVATE AIRFIELD.
Daniel looked at the clock.

The company jet was scheduled to leave in thirty-two minutes.
Then the building's fire alarm began to scream.
