Chapter 2 - The Breached FortressThe subterranean panic room beneath the Moretti library was lined with reinforced steel and equipped with high-definition security feeds. Sophia sat on a leather sofa, holding Lily in her lap while Marco monitored the estate's cameras.

On the screens, chaos unfolded. Masked mercenaries in tactical gear were pushing through the main hall. Lorenzo moved with lethal precision, coordinating with his loyal guards to flank the intruders. But as Sophia watched, she noticed something alarming on the camera covering the eastern service entrance—the route used exclusively by staff.
A group of three infiltrators wasn't joining the firefight in the main hall. They were moving directly toward the hidden mechanism leading down into the panic room level.
"Marco," Sophia said, her voice trembling as she pointed at the screen. "They aren't trying to fight Lorenzo. They already know where we are."
Marco’s eyes widened. "That's impossible. Only five people in the family know about this bunker's location."
"Valentina," Sophia realized aloud. "She had access to the master blueprints when you two were planning the wedding. She gave them the layout!"
Marco immediately reached for his tactical radio. "Boss, we have a breach on the lower level. Sub-tier three. They're coming straight for—"
Static cut him off. A loud explosion rocked the ceiling above them, sending plaster dust cascading down like snow. The primary power flickered and died, leaving the room illuminated only by emergency red lights.
"Stay behind me!" Marco drew his weapon, aiming it at the heavy steel door.
The electronic lock on the panic room began to spark as a thermal drill melted through the deadbolts from the outside. Sophia’s mind raced. She couldn't just sit here and be captured. She looked around the panic room and spotted a narrow maintenance shaft used for ventilation.
"Lily, sweetie, I need you to be very brave," Sophia whispered, her voice steady despite the adrenaline burning through her veins. "You see that small door over there? I need you to climb in."
"Mommy, I'm scared," Lily whimpered, tears streaking her dust-covered cheeks.
"I know, baby. But remember what you told Mr. Lorenzo earlier? You're strong. I'll be right behind you."
Sophia unlatched the vent duct just as the panic room's main door was kicked open with a thunderous bang. Marco fired two shots, dropping the first intruder, but a flashbang grenade was tossed into the room. The blinding light and deafening boom disoriented Marco, sending him to the floor.
Sophia shoved Lily into the duct and crawled in behind her, pulling the metal grate closed just as heavy tactical boots stepped into the room.
"Where is the girl?" a harsh voice demanded through a respirator mask.

"Clear! She's not in the main room!"
Sophia held her breath, her chest pressed against the cold aluminum duct, praying Lily wouldn't make a sound.
