Chapter 4 - The Shadow SyndicateLorenzo pulled Sophia into a hard, brief embrace before kneeling down to cup Lily’s face. "Thank God you're safe."

"How did you find us?" Sophia breathed, tears finally breaking through her composure.
"Marco regained consciousness and radioed me that you took the vents. I knew you'd head for the only safe place you knew," Lorenzo said, standing up and pulling a fresh magazine from his vest to reload his sidearm. "The house is secured. Valentina's mercenaries have been neutralized or captured, but Valentina herself... she escaped during the firefight."
"She escaped?" Sophia felt a wave of cold dread return.
"She didn't get far," Lorenzo replied grimly. "My men intercepted her vehicle at the south gate. But when they pulled her out, she revealed the truth. Valentina isn't running this operation, Sophia. She's just a mid-level operative working for someone far more dangerous."
"Who?"
"Julian Vance," Lorenzo said, his face hardening. "My former business partner—the man who claimed to be your late husband's benefactor."
The realization hit Sophia like a physical blow. Julian Vance was the man who had recommended her for the housekeeping job at the Moretti estate after her husband died in a mysterious car accident two years ago. He had presented himself as a savior, offering her work when no one else would.
"He put me here," Sophia whispered, horror dawning on her. "He didn't put me here to help me. He put me here as a spy, waiting for the moment to use Lily as leverage against you!"
"Precisely," Lorenzo said. "Julian knew that if I married Valentina, he would control the Moretti shipping lines. But when you found that bronze key today and brought it to me, you ruined his entire timeline. Now, he's desperate."
Suddenly, the vault’s emergency radio console pinged. Lorenzo stepped toward it and hit the speaker button.
"Lorenzo," Julian Vance's smooth, aristocratic voice drifted through the speaker. "I see you've reunited with our dear housekeeper and her lovely daughter."

"It's over, Julian," Lorenzo said, his voice dropping into a lethal, low register. "I have your ledgers. I have your offshore accounts. I have Valentina in handcuffs. You have nowhere left to run."
"Oh, I think I have one final move," Julian chuckled darkly. "Check the chapel’s pressure sensors, Lorenzo. When you unlocked that inner vault with Sophia's bronze key, you triggered a mechanical override. In ten minutes, the structural supports beneath the chapel will collapse, burying you, the girl, and all those precious documents under fifty tons of stone. Hand over the girl through the east exit, or you all die together."
