Chapter 5 - The Sunrise Coup

The first gray light of dawn broke over the Manhattan skyline, piercing through the towering glass facade of Cole-Vance Global headquarters on Park Avenue. Inside the forty-second-floor executive boardroom, the atmosphere was already buzzing with high-stakes tension.

Around the massive, twenty-seat rosewood conference table sat five senior board members, their expressions grim and resolute. At the head of the table sat Richard Sterling—Victoria’s influential uncle and the chairman of the board’s oversight committee. He had called an emergency quorum at 6:00 AM, capitalizing on the chaos of Victoria's arrest to execute a lightning-fast coup designed to strip Marcus of his CEO title and liquidate his voting shares.

"Gentlemen, the facts are indisputable," Richard announced, leaning forward over the table, tapping a thick stack of printed legal briefs in front of him. His heavy jowls twitched with self-righteous indignation. "Marcus Vance has proven himself completely unfit for executive leadership. His personal life is a public scandal, his household is currently the subject of a state police criminal investigation, and our primary strategic partner—Sterling Global—has formally notified us that they are terminating all joint ventures due to 'gross managerial misconduct.'"

"Richard, let's not act in haste," Beatrice Thorne, a senior board member and longtime ally of Marcus, interjected sharply. "Marcus hasn't even been formally addressed on these charges. Calling an emergency quorum at dawn without the sitting CEO present violates corporate bylaws section twelve."

"Section twelve has a moral turpitude exemption clause!" Richard snapped, slamming his palm onto the rosewood table. "When a CEO's wife is arrested for corporate espionage and child abduction under the very roof of the executive's estate, the moral turpitude clause takes immediate effect. I call for an immediate vote to strip Marcus Vance of his executive voting rights and appoint an interim board committee led by myself."

Murmurs of agreement rippled through the other three board members, who were heavily tied to Sterling financial interests. Hands began to lift to second the motion.

Click.

The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open with a sharp, echoing snap.

All heads whipped toward the entrance.

Marcus Vance walked into the room. He was impeccably dressed in a custom charcoal-gray three-piece suit, his silver-streaked hair neatly combed, his stride completely unhurried and radiating absolute, lethal confidence. Behind him walked Julian Vance, carrying a heavy digital projector case, and two corporate attorneys.

Richard Sterling’s face flushed a deep, mottled red. "You have no right to be here, Marcus! You are suspended pending an emergency review!"

"Am I, Richard?" Marcus asked smoothly, walking right up to the head of the table. He didn't sit down. Instead, he placed both palms flat against the rosewood surface, leaning over the table to stare directly into Richard's wide, startled eyes. "Let me remind you of something about corporate bylaws that your legal team apparently forgot to read past page four."

Marcus turned his head slightly toward Julian. "Play the file."

Julian popped open the digital projector case, plugged a secure thumb drive into the central wall-mounted smart-screen, and hit play.

The high-definition display flickered to life, projecting a recorded video conference call dated twelve hours prior. On the screen, Richard Sterling’s face appeared alongside Victoria’s, clearly plotting the exact administrative backdoor code used to breach the firm's central database.

“...just make sure the wipe executes at midnight,” Richard’s recorded voice echoed clearly through the high-end boardroom speakers. “Once Marcus's personal accounts are frozen and the database is wiped, the board will have no choice but to invoke the moral clause and hand the company over to us.”

The audio cut off abruptly.

Dead, suffocating silence descended on the boardroom. Beatrice Thorne’s jaw dropped, while the other three board members stared at Richard in absolute horror and disbelief.

Richard staggered backward in his leather chair, his face turning the color of skim milk. "That... that's a deepfake! That's fabricated electronic evidence!"

"It's backed by blockchain-verified metadata straight from Sterling Global's own primary server, which my internal audit team seized under federal seal at 4:00 AM this morning," Marcus said, his voice dropping into a dangerously calm register. He straightened up slowly, buttoning his suit jacket. "So, Richard... do you still want to call for that vote, or would you prefer to resign before I hand this file directly to the U.S. Attorney's office alongside your niece's indictment?"
