Chapter 11 - What Lillian Paid For

Priya found Lillian’s personal repayments.
$1.24 million.
Miranda initially thought that money restored family losses.
Then she noticed the source.
Lillian sold stock inherited from her own mother.
A separate asset.
She used it to cover Graham.
Miranda felt angry all over again.
“My mother sacrificed her own inheritance to protect him.”
Nathan nodded.
“And Mrs. Dalton.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Reputation.”
“Partly.”
Lillian’s notes added another reason.
If this becomes public, Miranda will lose both parents at once—Graham to death, and the man she believed him to be.
Miranda began crying.
Her mother wanted to protect her.
That love caused harm.
Another lesson.
Protecting people from truth could become control.
Lillian had not trusted Miranda to survive disappointment.
So she buried it.
Miranda survived anyway.
