Chapter 16 - THE FOUNDATION CHANGES

The Corsini Foundation completed independent governance reform.
Family members no longer held automatic advisory seats.
Professional directors.
Clear conflict policy.
Donor privacy.
No household title linked to charity influence.
Maribel had supported the reform before the gala and continued supporting it afterward.
That contradiction fascinated me.
She understood good systems intellectually.
Her emotional life remained attached to old symbols.
People can believe modern governance and still crave medieval recognition.
Then the Foundation asked whether the Patronage Book should be digitized.
Estelle said:
“Only the historical portions.”
Private aid stories remained restricted.
Good.
No turning old favors into public family branding.
Then one archivist asked whether the silver chain should be displayed.
I said no.
Estelle said yes.
We looked at her.
“Why?”
“Because hiding stupid traditions makes descendants invent beautiful versions.”
Excellent.
The display card read:
Decorative household chain formerly used in ceremonial hostess succession. Retired after 2026.
No mention of Maribel.
No sensationalism.
