Chapter 21 - THE CHAIR GOES INTO STORAGE

The Lady’s Chair became unsafe for Estelle.

Too high.

Hard to rise from.

We replaced it at dinner with a comfortable upholstered chair.

No ceremony.

The original went to storage.

Maribel asked:

“Do you want it in the archive?”

Estelle, still lucid enough that day, said:

“Burn it.”

I laughed.

“No.”

“Coward.”

“Historic furniture.”

“Ugly historic furniture.”

We compromised.

Storage.

Years later the family restored it for a museum exhibition about Villa Corsini.

No throne.

No seat of power.

A label.
