Chapter 6 - The Woman in SapphireA woman's voice suddenly cut through the corridor.
"Close your eyes!"
Victoria Astor pushed through the crowd.
She wore an elegant sapphire-blue gown that seemed designed for a magazine cover. Diamonds rested against her throat.
But her face was no longer beautiful.
It was terrified.
"Everyone leave this hallway!" she ordered.
Anna stared at her.
Victoria pointed toward the wall.
"That child doesn't belong here."
The words sounded strange.
Too rehearsed.
Then Victoria turned toward security.
"Get that maid away from the boy."
Anna stepped backward.
The boy suddenly grabbed her wrist through the opening.
"Don't let her take me."
Victoria heard him.

For the first time that evening, Anna saw genuine fear in the woman's eyes.
