Chapter 16 - Analyzing The Chemical Residue On Chloe's Pillow

Later that afternoon, forensics specialists completed their detailed chemical analysis of the evidence recovered from Chloe's bed.
Dr. Harrison walked into Marcus’s private study holding a formal laboratory report printed on heavy state forensic letterhead.
“The residue on your daughter's pillowcase matches the exact compound found in the spiked intravenous bag,” Dr. Harrison reported.
“It’s a slow-acting neurotoxin designed to mimic natural organ failure over a prolonged period of time,” the doctor added gravely.
Marcus gripped the edge of the mahogany desk so tightly that his knuckles turned stark white against the dark wood.
“She was poisoning her own granddaughter day by day right under my roof while pretending to care,” Marcus whispered in quiet fury.

“If you hadn't arrived when you did, toxicology estimates she wouldn't have survived another forty-eight hours,” Dr. Harrison said softly.
Marcus closed his eyes, offering a silent prayer of gratitude that fate had intervened before it was entirely too late.
