Chapter 7 - The True Purpose Behind The Broken Heart Monitor

The digital static on the broken heart monitor suddenly cleared, replaced by a diagnostic error code flashing in bright red letters.
Nurse Sarah rushed over to inspect the diagnostic readout panel on the side of the medical equipment casing.
“Mr. Vance, the monitor didn't just crash on its own accord,” Sarah reported, her fingers flying across the diagnostic keyboard.
“What do you mean?” Marcus asked, keeping his arm securely wrapped around Chloe's small frame.
“The internal hardware was intentionally short-circuited by a specialized override device plugged into the auxiliary port,” Sarah explained.
“Someone wanted the alarms disabled so that Chloe's vital drop wouldn't alert the central nursing station,” Marcus realized aloud.
