Chapter 10 - Chloe Whispers A Terrifying Secret About Last Night
Little Chloe stirred against her father's chest, her breathing finally beginning to steady as the new IV line pumped clean saline.
“Daddy... Grandma came in here last night when the lights were all turned off,” Chloe whispered timidly into the quiet room.
Marcus knelt down beside the mattress again, hanging on every fragile word his daughter uttered in the dim light.
“What did she tell you, sweetheart?” Marcus asked gently, stroking her soft hair with infinite care and tenderness.
“She said I had to drink a bitter medicine so I could go sleep forever and stop being a heavy burden on you,” Chloe sobbed.
Marcus felt a tear slip down his cheek, his jaw clenching so hard that the muscles ached with unbearable tension.
