Thinking his pregnant wife was faking her brutal fall to ruin his family image, the furious husband crossed a dangerous line, only to realize the horrifying truth seconds later.

"Daniel! Put that phone down this instant!" Margaret screamed, her voice piercing the silence of the mansion.

She didn't ask if I was okay. She didn't call for help. She didn't ask about the baby. She screamed her son's name like he was a child about to disobey her.

"Daniel, do you hear me?!" she raged, taking a step toward him. "Put it away!"

I lay curled on the cold floor, one hand pressed desperately beneath my stomach while my other hand gripped Daniel’s pant leg. I was terrified that if I let go of him, I would sink into the floor and never wake up.

"My wife is thirty-two weeks pregnant," Daniel told the emergency dispatcher, his voice breaking into a sob. "She was kicked in the abdomen. She’s bleeding heavily. Please—please send an ambulance right now!"

Margaret lunged forward and grabbed Daniel’s shoulder, trying to snatch the phone. "Tell them it was an accident! Tell them she tripped!"
