Chapter 10 - Isabella Never Planned to Use the Embryos
Catherine’s position produced the major twist.
Isabella did not want the embryos for future reproductive use.
She had undergone a hysterectomy years earlier.
Gestational surrogacy might theoretically have remained possible depending on legal and medical circumstances, but Isabella had never pursued it.
She had told Khloe she wanted “Dad’s last chance at family.”
That was manipulation.
Her actual goal was the trust argument.
Catherine had evidence.
Months earlier Isabella asked her to sign documents supporting the claim that Anthony intended all embryo-related rights and associated trust assets to benefit Isabella exclusively.
Catherine refused.
That was when Isabella turned to Khloe.
Three clues finally aligned.
The acknowledgment rather than ordinary consent.
Her obsession with Anthony choosing her.
Her willingness to trade the assault complaint for Khloe’s signature.
The embryos were emotionally important to Isabella.
But they were also leverage over $640,000.
And there was another layer.
Isabella was in financial trouble.
Her luxury interior-design firm had lost two major clients.
She had personally guaranteed office debt.
She wasn’t destitute.
She was frightened of becoming less wealthy than the image she maintained.
Anthony’s trust looked like rescue.
Again, money alone wasn’t enough to explain the obsession.
Catherine did.
“Isabella has spent her whole life trying to prove Anthony loved her first.”
That was the real inheritance she wanted.
Priority.
If the trust language could be interpreted in her favor, she wouldn’t merely receive money.
She could tell herself Anthony had reserved something exclusively for her.
Khloe understood before I did.
“She doesn't want Dad's embryos.”
She looked exhausted.
“She wants proof he chose her.”
That made what happened in the hospital more tragic.
And more deliberate.
Khloe had never been competing.
Isabella needed her to be.
Now Khloe had to choose whether to fight Isabella’s trust claim aggressively or step away from the money entirely.
Her decision surprised everyone.
She chose neither.
She asked the trustee to seek formal guidance through the appropriate legal process rather than privately negotiating between sisters.
No secret deal.
No signature.
