Chapter 7 - The Pattern in Isabella's Messages
Natalie reviewed Khloe’s messages with permission.
A pattern emerged.
Isabella rarely discussed what she intended to do with the embryos.
She discussed Anthony.
Dad wanted me to have what was ours.
You got everything else.
You got his house.
You got his attention.
You got the last years.
That last claim wasn’t true financially.
Anthony’s estate had been divided carefully.
But grief doesn’t audit spreadsheets.
Then Natalie found a repeated phrase.
Sign the acknowledgment.
Not consent.
Acknowledgment.
The hospital papers Khloe refused to sign weren’t solely about embryo disposition.
One page contained language stating Khloe acknowledged Anthony had intended certain stored reproductive material to pass “for Isabella’s exclusive benefit.”
Natalie had crossed it out when reviewing a scanned draft.
“That sentence has no business being there,” she said.
Why?
Because it could be used beyond the storage dispute.
Anthony’s trust contained a provision regarding certain “personal biological property and associated rights.”
The wording was unusual because the trust was old.
Isabella’s attorney had apparently developed an argument that if the embryos qualified under that clause, associated funds reserved for storage, legal costs and related administration might follow them.
How much?
Approximately $640,000 remained in that subtrust.
Now we had a financial motive.
But Natalie cautioned us.
“It isn't a suitcase containing six hundred thousand dollars. Isabella doesn't automatically get it. Her legal theory may fail completely.”
Still, it explained urgency.
Isabella wasn’t merely fighting for embryos.
She was trying to establish that Anthony intended a category of trust property exclusively for her.
Khloe’s signature would strengthen that claim.
Three earlier clues shifted meaning.
The prepared papers.
Isabella’s insistence that Anthony never wanted Khloe.
The strange “acknowledgment.”
This was grief mixed with money.
A dangerous combination.
Then hospital administration called.
The camera recording from the incident had been preserved under their incident procedures.
But there was a complication.
