Chapter 14 - The Last Offer

Before the trust matter proceeded further, Isabella had one final opportunity to withdraw unsupported claims and negotiate a resolution consistent with the existing records and all legally relevant parties’ rights.
Khloe offered one condition beyond the legal terms.
“Tell the truth about the hospital.”
Isabella stared at her.
“To whom?”
“To the people you've lied to.”
Family.
Her attorney.
Catherine.
Anyone to whom she had claimed Khloe fell and I attacked without cause.
Isabella laughed bitterly.
“So Marcus gets to be the hero?”
“No.”
Khloe looked at me.
“He hit you. He's dealing with that separately.”
Isabella hadn't expected that.
Nobody was being declared innocent simply because somebody else was worse.
Khloe continued.
“You pinned me down. You tried to manufacture evidence. Marcus hit you. Those can all be true.”
Our family had spent months trying to turn truth into teams.
Khloe refused.
Isabella asked:
“And if I don't?”
“Then I stop helping you hide it.”
That was Khloe’s final boundary.
Not public humiliation.
Not revenge.
No dramatic social-media exposure.
Simply no more secrecy.
Isabella looked toward Catherine.
Her mother said nothing.
For once, nobody rescued her.
Isabella rejected the offer.
She still insisted the footage would show a “misunderstanding.”
Khloe stood.
“All right.”
She picked up her bag.
The mediation ended.
And the mechanisms already in motion continued.
The preserved recording.
The hospital incident report.
The trust proceeding.
The financial records.
Catherine’s correspondence.

Isabella could argue with Khloe.
She could no longer make the evidence disappear.
