Chapter 9 - What Happened the Day Before

We didn’t watch it casually on somebody’s phone.

The recording remained under controlled hospital procedures and was handled through the appropriate legal process.

Natalie later explained the relevant sequence to us.

Isabella entered Khloe’s room carrying the papers and champagne.

She placed the second glass near Khloe.

She repeatedly encouraged Khloe to hold it.

Then she handed Khloe the acknowledgment.

Khloe refused.

Isabella became angry.

But she did not assault her that day.

Instead, she picked up the second champagne glass using a napkin and placed it inside her purse.

That explained the strange wiping.

Fingerprints.

She had wanted a glass Khloe handled.

Why?

Natalie didn’t speculate until additional evidence emerged.

Catherine supplied an email Isabella had sent her weeks earlier.

It discussed challenging Khloe’s fitness to participate in decisions involving the stored embryos.

Isabella described Khloe as emotionally unstable during pregnancy and implied she was drinking.

Khloe stared at Natalie.

“I haven't had alcohol since we started trying for this baby.”

We knew.

Her physicians knew.

But Isabella had apparently been building a story.

A pregnant woman.

Hospitalized with complications.

Champagne.

Fingerprints on a glass.

If Isabella could create enough confusion, she might argue Khloe’s objections were unreliable or compromised.

Would that strategy have worked legally?

Probably not by itself.

That wasn’t the point.

Isabella was creating pressure.

Reputational.

Familial.

Potentially legal.

The second day escalated because Khloe realized what Isabella was doing and tried to take the purse.

The struggle began.

Isabella forced her down.

Then I entered.

The conflict was no longer simply two sisters fighting over their father.

Isabella had attempted to manufacture evidence against Khloe.

That required a response beyond family boundaries.

But Khloe still faced a problem.

The embryos involved Catherine too.

And Catherine wanted something neither daughter expected.

She wanted them destroyed.
