Chapter 11 - My Slap Comes Back

Isabella followed through regarding my assault.

I expected that.

My attorney advised me separately from Khloe’s reproductive-law counsel.

I had witnesses.

Context.

Video.

None changed the fact that I struck Isabella after I had already pulled her away from Khloe.

I had options.

Fight every allegation.

Minimize.

Claim instinct.

Instead I acknowledged what I did.

The legal consequences moved through ordinary channels rather than resolving overnight, and my attorney handled them.

More importantly, I apologized to Khloe.

Not for stopping Isabella.

For making the situation more violent after Khloe was already terrified.

“I thought you'd be glad I hit her,” I admitted.

Khloe looked at me.

“I was.”

That surprised me.

“For about five seconds.”

Then she took my hand.

“After that I realized you were furious enough that I didn't know what you'd do.”

That was painful.

I began counseling.

Not because a judge ordered it.

Because our son would be born in ten weeks and I didn’t want protection to become another word for losing control.

Isabella used my slap publicly within the family.

Marcus attacked me.

Marcus is dangerous.

Marcus controls Khloe.

That last accusation bothered Khloe most.

Because sometimes, she said, I did.

Not like Isabella.

Not maliciously.

I booked things without asking.

Solved problems she wanted to solve.

Spoke for her when she paused.

I had always called that taking care of my family.

Dad’s trust dispute had exposed more than Isabella.

It exposed me.

Khloe had spent her life between strong personalities who interpreted love as authority.

I didn’t want to become another one.

Then Natalie called.

The truth about the embryos and the trust could establish facts.

But it wouldn’t automatically make Isabella accountable for what she did in the hospital.

For that, Khloe would have to tell her story clearly.

And she would have to do it without me speaking for her.
