Chapter 5 - Fabricated Police Charges Threaten Grace And Little Lily

Before Nathan could kneel down to comfort Grace, the shrill sound of flashing red and blue lights cut through the estate windows.
Heavy boots pounded against the gravel driveway outside as local police cruisers surrounded the perimeter of the sprawling mansion.
Victoria’s head snapped up, a twisted, desperate smile returning to her lips as she heard the familiar sirens wailing outside.
“You think you’ve won, Nathan? Look outside,” Victoria laughed hysterically, wiping a tear from her cheek.
The front doors were kicked open without warning, and Chief of Police Thomas Vance marched into the grand foyer with two officers.
“Nathan Cole? Step away from the suspect immediately,” Chief Vance commanded, resting his hand heavily on his service revolver.
“Suspect? What are you talking about, Thomas?” Nathan demanded, stepping between the police and Grace’s trembling form.
“We have an emergency arrest warrant for Grace Miller on charges of kidnapping, grand larceny, and extortion,” Vance stated coldly.
Nathan’s jaw dropped in disbelief as he realized the terrifying depth of the conspiracy operating within the local legal system.

“That warrant is completely fabricated! I am the owner of this estate, and no one is arresting anyone here tonight!” Nathan roared.
“The district attorney signed it ten minutes ago, Nathan, courtesy of the Kensington family’s emergency legal petition,” Vance smirked.
