Chapter 6 - Nathan Confronts His Corrupt Family Legal Counsel Head-On

Nathan pulled his encrypted smartphone from his pocket, dialing a direct extension with furious speed and determination.
“Put me through to lead corporate counsel Arthur Sterling immediately,” Nathan ordered the late-night answering service.
“Mr. Sterling’s office is closed, sir, and his emergency phone has been disabled per directive of the board,” the receptionist replied.
“You tell Arthur that if he doesn't answer this call in ten seconds, I will personally dissolve every retainer our firm holds,” Nathan yelled.
A click echoed on the line, followed by the heavy, raspy breathing of seventy-year-old Arthur Sterling waking up abruptly.
“Nathan? Do you know what time it is? What is the meaning of this middle-of-the-night hostility?” Arthur grumbled sleepily.
“Chief Vance is currently standing in my kitchen attempting to arrest the mother of my child on fabricated charges,” Nathan hissed.
“Ah... so you found out about the girl,” Arthur sighed on the other end, his tone shifting instantly from confused to ice-cold.
“Your father set up that legal protocol years ago to protect the family name from exactly this kind of emotional disruption.”

“Listen to me very carefully, Arthur,” Nathan whispered, his voice dropping into a register that made Chief Vance flinch slightly.
“If Grace and Lily spend even one hour in a holding cell, I will release every offshore tax evasion file my father hid in the vault.”
