Chapter 18 - Return to the Queen

The stealth helicopter flew at absolute maximum velocity, completely ignoring all aviation laws as it tore aggressively through the dark sky.

Dante leaped from the aircraft before the landing skids even fully touched the grass, sprinting wildly toward the grand foyer of his estate.

He violently shoved past his own heavily armed guards, his eyes entirely wild and completely consumed by a desperate, suffocating panic.

He sprinted down the basement stairs, his boots echoing loudly against the concrete as he finally reached the open door of the panic room.

The sight that violently greeted him completely stopped all the oxygen in his heavily scarred, aggressively heaving chest.

Sofia was sitting calmly on the edge of the cot, gently singing a soft, beautiful lullaby to Leo, who was safely asleep in her arms.

The dead body of the traitor had already been quietly removed by the guards, leaving only a dark, wet stain on the concrete floor.

Dante dropped heavily to his knees in front of her, burying his face directly into her lap as a broken, shuddering breath entirely escaped his lungs.

"I am so incredibly sorry that I was not here to protect you," Dante choked out, his massive hands trembling violently as he gripped her dress.

Sofia gently ran her soft fingers through his dark, messy hair, looking down at the terrifying cartel boss with absolute, unconditional love.

"You gave me the absolute strength and the tools I needed to protect our family, Dante," she whispered softly, kissing the top of his head.

"I am entirely safe, the children are completely safe, and we have finally survived the very worst of the violent storm."

Dante looked up at his fierce, incredibly brave wife, completely realizing that she was the absolute, undeniable equal to his dark soul.

He lifted her and the sleeping boy securely into his strong arms, carrying them gently out of the dark basement and firmly back into the light.
