Chapter 21 - The Ghost from the Slums

The transition from a ruthless cartel kingpin to a legitimate corporate billionaire was a monumental, highly complex achievement that Dante had perfectly orchestrated.
He had successfully buried the violent ghosts of his past deep beneath layers of untouchable corporate lawyers and heavily fortified trust funds.
Sofia’s life had completely transformed into a radiant, beautiful dream filled with charity galas, private tutors for the children, and absolute, unconditional love.
But the slums of Santa Catarina, where Sofia and Diego had once desperately starved in the gutters, had a very long and unforgiving memory.
On a rainy Tuesday afternoon, a heavily scarred, deeply intoxicated man stumbled up to the outer security perimeter of the massive Navarro estate.
His clothes were completely ragged, his eyes were bloodshot with years of cheap liquor, and his rotting teeth formed a cruel, malicious smile.
His name was Arturo, the violently abusive, deeply cowardly father who had completely abandoned Sofia and Diego to die over fifteen years ago.
He had recently seen Sofia’s beautiful, glowing face on the cover of a national business magazine featuring Mexico's most powerful philanthropic families.
Arturo aggressively banged his bruised fists against the heavy iron gates, loudly demanding to speak to the newly crowned queen of the Navarro empire.
The heavily armed security guards immediately raised their suppressed rifles, fully prepared to permanently erase the aggressive trespasser from existence.

But Sofia happened to be reviewing the security feeds from her private office, and the sudden, horrifying sight of her father's face entirely froze the blood in her veins.
She quickly keyed the intercom, her voice trembling slightly as she ordered the confused guards to absolutely hold their fire.
