Chapter 23 - The Queen's Burden

Sofia walked quietly out of the cold interrogation room, explicitly ordering Mateo to throw Arturo violently back onto the street without a single penny.

She firmly instructed the loyal head of security not to mention this incredibly pathetic incident to Dante under any circumstances.

Dante had spent the last three years fiercely fighting the darkness to bring their family completely into the light, and she did not want to drag him back into the mud.

She falsely believed that a cowardly, broke addict like Arturo would simply give up and crawl back into his miserable hole once he faced the estate's heavy guns.

For an entire week, the Navarro estate remained perfectly peaceful, heavily convincing Sofia that her bold, independent decision had been entirely correct.

She spent her days joyfully painting with Leo and Isabella, actively pushing the dark, unpleasant memory of her father entirely out of her mind.

But she fundamentally underestimated the desperate, incredibly dangerous lengths a greedy, starving rat will go to when cornered.

Arturo did not slink away in defeat; instead, he aggressively sought out the scattered, bitter remnants of the old, defunct cartels that Dante had previously dismantled.

He successfully sold them a highly dangerous, incredibly valuable piece of information regarding the daily, highly predictable routines of Sofia’s beloved younger brother.
