Chapter 15 - THE CONFRONTATION

The lights returned.

Vittorio stood on the upper walkway surrounded by armed men.

Older than Lorenzo, but still powerful, he wore a dark suit and a smile that carried no warmth.

“You look just like your father.”

Lorenzo stepped forward.

“And you look exactly like the coward who ran.”

Vittorio laughed.

“I didn't run. I waited.”

Emma stayed behind Lorenzo.

Vittorio noticed her.

“So this is the waitress.”

“She has a name.”

“Yes. Emma.”

His smile widened.

“You should choose your friends more carefully, Lorenzo.”

Lorenzo’s fists tightened.

“You threatened my family.”

“No. I offered you a choice.”

“You kidnapped no one.”

“Not yet.”

The word sent ice through Emma.

Lorenzo stepped toward him.

Vittorio raised one finger.

“Don't.”

His men aimed their weapons.

Then sirens sounded outside.

Vittorio’s expression changed.

Daniel had secretly alerted federal agents.

Lorenzo looked toward Emma.

She had brought the recording equipment from his office, hoping they could capture a confession.

Vittorio suddenly understood.

“You little traitors.”

Emma lifted her chin.

“You underestimated me.”

Vittorio smiled bitterly.

“I underestimated nothing.”

Then he ran.

Lorenzo chased him through the warehouse.

For the first time, Emma saw pure rage in Lorenzo's eyes.

Not for himself.

For everyone Vittorio had threatened.
