Chapter 33 - THE WOMAN AT THE FOUNDATION

A young woman named Sofia arrived at the foundation carrying a folder and a baby wrapped in a faded blue blanket.

She had been sleeping in her car.

Her husband had disappeared.

She had nowhere to go.

The receptionist told her the foundation helped families like hers.

Sofia expected paperwork.

Instead, Emma sat beside her.

“Tell me what happened.”

Sofia hesitated.

“Why?”

“Because sometimes people need someone to listen before they need someone to help.”

Sofia began crying.

Hours later, the foundation had secured temporary housing, medical care for the baby, legal assistance, and employment training for Sofia.

Before leaving, Sofia looked at Emma.

“Why did you help me?”

Emma smiled.

“Because someone once helped me.”

“Who?”

“My husband's mother.”

Sofia looked confused.

Emma glanced toward Elena’s portrait hanging in the hallway.

“She taught me that kindness becomes bigger every time you pass it on.”

Sofia followed her gaze.

Then she whispered, “I hope I can do that someday.”

Emma smiled.

“I think you already started.”
