Chapter 48 - THE FOUNDATION UNDER ATTACK

The attack came before sunrise.

The foundation's main office was vandalized.

Windows smashed.

Files destroyed.

Walls covered in threats.

No one was physically hurt.

But Emma stood in the middle of the wreckage with tears in her eyes.

Lorenzo arrived seconds later.

He expected anger.

Instead, Emma walked toward him.

“They wanted us afraid.”

Lorenzo looked around.

“They failed.”

She shook her head.

“No.”

She picked up a photograph from the floor.

“We decide whether they failed.”

Lorenzo looked at her.

She was trembling.

But she didn't step back.

Employees slowly began arriving.

One brought cleaning supplies.

Another brought boxes.

Someone ordered coffee.

Within an hour, people were cleaning the ruined office.

No one left.

No one gave up.

Lorenzo watched in silence.

Years ago, power had meant making people obey.

Now he understood something different.

Real power was making people believe their work mattered enough to rebuild after destruction.

Emma looked at him.

“We're reopening today.”

He smiled.

“I knew you were going to say that.”
