Chapter 61 - THE ENVELOPE

Emma thought the surprises were over.
She was wrong.
One autumn morning, an envelope arrived at the foundation with no return address.
Inside was a single photograph.
Elena stood beside a young man Emma had never seen before.
On the back, someone had written:
He deserves to know the truth.
Emma stared at the photograph for several seconds.
Lorenzo walked into the room.
“What is it?”
She handed it to him.
The moment he saw the young man, his face changed.
“That's impossible.”
“Who is he?”
Lorenzo sat down slowly.
“My brother.”
Emma froze.
“You don't have a brother.”
“I didn't.”
“Then who is he?”
Lorenzo turned the photograph over again.
“He would have been thirty-five today.”
Emma watched him carefully.
“What happened?”
Lorenzo swallowed.
“My father told us he died as a baby.”
Silence filled the room.
Emma looked at the photograph again.
“Then why is he standing beside your mother?”
Lorenzo had no answer.
For twenty years, they had believed Elena's story was complete.
