Chapter 45 - THE OLD ENEMY

Just when life became peaceful again, Lorenzo received a message from an old name.

Victor Romano.

A man who had once tried to control everything Lorenzo owned.

Victor had returned to Chicago.

And he wanted to meet.

Lorenzo almost deleted the message.

Instead, he showed Emma.

“He could be dangerous.”

Emma looked at him.

“Will you go?”

“I don't know.”

“What does he want?”

“Probably the same thing people like him always want.”

“Power?”

“Control.”

Emma took his hand.

“You don't owe your past a conversation.”

Lorenzo stared at the message again.

He remembered the man he had once been.

Cold.

Fearless.

Violent.

He also remembered his mother's voice.

“You don't become free by defeating every enemy, Lorenzo. You become free when they no longer control who you are.”

He deleted the message.

Then he deleted the number.

Emma smiled.

“That's all?”

“That's all.”

He looked at her.

“I don't want to spend another day fighting ghosts.”

She kissed him.

Neither of them realized that Victor was watching the foundation from a dark car across the street.

And he had no intention of disappearing quietly.
