Chapter 69 - THE LAST BOX

Years passed.
One evening, Emma was cleaning a storage room when she found one final box marked ELENA.
She brought it downstairs.
Lorenzo opened it.
Inside was a simple notebook.
No money.
No legal documents.
Just pages of handwritten names.
Hundreds of them.
Women.
Children.
Families.
Beside each name were notes.
Needs.
Medical conditions.
School information.
Elena had been helping people long before the foundation officially existed.
Lorenzo read the final page.
There was only one sentence.
“Never let them believe they are alone.”
He looked at Emma.
“She knew.”
“She knew what you would build.”
“No.”
He closed the notebook.
“She knew what you would build.”
Emma smiled.
“That isn't fair.”
“It is.”
He took her hand.
“You were the first person who understood her.”
Emma shook her head.
“She understood me first.”
They placed the notebook inside the foundation's archive.
Not hidden.
Not locked away.
Available to everyone.
Because Elena's story was never supposed to belong to one family.

It belonged to anyone who needed to remember that someone cared.
