Chapter 22 - A SECOND CHANCE

Elena recovered slowly.
During those difficult weeks, Emma rarely left her side.
She helped with meals, medications, and physical therapy.
Lorenzo tried to continue working, but his attention was always at the hospital.
One afternoon, Elena called him over.
“You're hovering.”
“I’m protecting you.”
“You're exhausting everyone.”
Lorenzo frowned.
Emma laughed.
“She's right.”
Elena smiled.
Then she looked at her son seriously.
“You built your life around protecting people.”
“Yes.”
“But sometimes protection means allowing people to help you.”
Lorenzo looked at Emma.
He understood.
His entire life had been built around control.
Now he was learning trust.
Weeks later, Elena finally returned home.
The family celebrated with a quiet dinner.
No politicians.
No cameras.
No business associates.
Just family.
Elena raised her glass.
“To second chances.”
Emma raised hers.
“To family.”
Lorenzo looked at them both.
“To the woman who walked into our lives when nobody else cared.”
Emma smiled.
“I'm still just the waitress who broke your ballroom.”
Lorenzo laughed.
“No.”

He kissed her hand.
“You're the reason that ballroom means something to me.”
