Chapter 39 - THE NEXT GENERATION

Years later, a little boy ran through the foundation's garden carrying a wooden toy airplane.
Emma watched him from a bench.
Lorenzo sat beside her.
“He's fast.”
“He gets that from you.”
“He gets the stubbornness from you.”
Emma gasped.
“I'm not stubborn.”
Lorenzo raised an eyebrow.
“You once argued with six lawyers.”
“They were wrong.”
He laughed.
The boy climbed onto Emma's lap.
“Grandma Emma!”
Emma smiled.
“I am not your grandmother.”
The boy grinned.
“Grandma Emma.”
Lorenzo laughed harder.
Emma surrendered.
“Fine.”
She looked at the child.
“Do you know why this garden is here?”
“No.”
“Because someone believed kindness should never stop with one person.”
The boy looked at the flowers.
“Can we plant one?”
Emma smiled.
“Of course.”
They walked toward the garden together.
Lorenzo watched them.
For the first time, he understood that Elena's greatest legacy was not the foundation.
