Chapter 62 - THE SON ELENA LOST

Lorenzo spent the entire day searching through old records.
Birth certificates.
Hospital records.
Private correspondence.
Every document seemed to lead nowhere.
Then Emma found something hidden inside Elena's old archive.
A letter.
Never mailed.
Never opened.
The first line made Lorenzo's hands shake.
“My dear son, if you ever find this…”
He couldn't continue.
Emma gently took the letter.
“Do you want me to read it?”
He nodded.
The letter revealed the truth.
Lorenzo's younger brother, Matteo, had not died.
He had been taken away after a family conflict when he was an infant.
Elena had spent years trying to find him.
She never succeeded.
The man in the photograph was not a stranger.
He was Matteo.
And according to the photograph, he was alive.
Lorenzo stood motionless.
“She knew.”
Emma nodded.
“She spent years searching for him.”
“Why didn't she tell me?”
“Maybe she was afraid.”
“Of what?”
Emma looked at him.
“That you'd blame yourself for something that wasn't your fault.”
Lorenzo closed his eyes.
For the first time in years, grief returned in a form he had never experienced.
Not grief for someone he had lost.
May you like
Grief for someone he had never been allowed to know.
