Chapter 37 - THE ANNIVERSARY
Ten years had passed since the night everything changed.
The foundation held a private ceremony in the same ballroom where Elena had once been humiliated.
The chandelier glowed above them.
Emma stood at the center.
The crowd fell silent.
Lorenzo stepped forward.
“Ten years ago, everyone in this room had a choice.”
He looked across the ballroom.
“Most people chose comfort.”
Then he turned toward Emma.
“One person chose courage.”
Applause filled the room.
Emma shook her head.
“I didn't think I was courageous.”
Lorenzo smiled.
“That has always been your secret.”
He handed her a small box.
Emma opened it.
Inside was Elena’s old bracelet.
The same bracelet Emma had once noticed on that terrible night.
Emma covered her mouth.
“She wanted you to have this,” Lorenzo said.
“She did?”
“She told me that one day, you would understand why.”
Emma slipped it onto her wrist.
