The wedding took place beneath a canopy of white flowers.
Emma helped Claire adjust her veil.
“You look beautiful.”
Claire smiled nervously.
“I'm terrified.”
“Good.”
Claire laughed.
“It means you understand what this means.”
Outside, Lorenzo waited with Noah.
When the music began, everyone stood.
Noah looked toward the entrance.
Claire appeared.
His face changed instantly.
Emma watched from the front row.
She remembered another ballroom.

Another life.

No one was afraid.
People were smiling.
When the vows were exchanged, Emma cried.
Lorenzo leaned toward her.
“You're crying.”
“So are you.”
“I am not.”
She looked at him.
His eyes were unmistakably wet.
After the ceremony, Noah embraced them both.
“You made this family possible.”
Emma shook her head.
“No.”
She looked toward Elena's photograph placed quietly near the flowers.
“She started it.”
Noah followed her gaze.
