Chapter 28 - THE LAST DANCE

Near midnight, the orchestra began playing a slow melody.
Lorenzo approached Emma.
“May I?”
She smiled.
“You're asking permission after all these years?”
“I learned.”
She placed her hand in his.
They stepped onto the dance floor.
Elena watched from her table.
Noah, now a doctor, stood beside her with his wife.
The entire family watched the couple slowly dance beneath the chandelier.
“You remember our first night here?” Lorenzo whispered.
“How could I forget?”
“I thought you were reckless.”
“I thought you were arrogant.”
“I was.”
“You still are.”
He laughed.
Then his expression softened.
“You changed everything.”
Emma rested her head against his chest.
“No. We changed everything.”
He held her tighter.
Music flowed around them.
No threats.
No fear.
No enemies.
Just two people who had found each other in the worst possible moment and somehow built something beautiful from it.
When the song ended, Lorenzo kissed her forehead.
“Dance with me again tomorrow.”
Emma smiled.
“Tomorrow, the day after, and every day after that.”
